BOM finalized, brokers for some ICs, and motor driver spacing
Finalized the bill of materials, including deciding whether brokers are acceptable for a few signal chain ICs hit by the shortage, and wrapped up spacing on the motor control board.
Finalized the bill of materials today.
Most of that was making sure we’re using proper distributors for everything. The harder part was validating whether we can use brokers for certain integrated circuits.
The reason for brokers is the IC shortage. It’s hitting some of the parts we want and prefer in our signal chain, and where those parts actually are right now is with brokers. For the most part they’re unauthorized by the Octopart standard.
So those needed validating instead of just getting added to the order.
Also finalized the motor control board.
That was mostly spacing. Making sure the proper spacing has been considered so the motor drivers sit in the optimal spots, weighing heat, manufacturability, accessibility, and ease of use.
Four things to balance for every driver.
Next step is talking to our PCB manufacturer and getting on a call with a sales rep, so we’re all on the same page with what the board needs and requires before anything gets built.
