Week of October 12: Final review passed, BOM locked in
The board passed its final design review, the bill of materials got finalized with a call on brokers for a few shortage-hit ICs, and the motor control board's driver spacing got wrapped up.
Two posts this week. The board got through its final review and then it was all about getting it ready to build: connectors, the BOM, and finishing the motor control board.
- Final design review passed, now it’s down to connectors: the team agreed the board follows the datasheets and the routing is done well, so it’s ready for production. The one open item is which headers attach it to the rest of the system, balancing cost against crimping, assembly, and lasting a long time.
- BOM finalized, brokers for some ICs, and motor driver spacing: made sure everything comes from proper distributors, except a few signal chain ICs hit by the shortage that only brokers have right now, so those had to be validated instead of just added to the order. Also finished the motor control board, mostly spacing so each driver sits where heat, manufacturability, accessibility, and ease of use all work out.
Next is a call with our PCB manufacturer and a sales rep so everyone’s on the same page about what the board needs before anything gets built.
